Out at the end of Bearskin Neck,
out past the Fudgery, past Helmut’s Strudel Shop,
past Bradley Wharf and Motif #1,
past The Barn Gallery and The Country Store-
at the very end of the Neck
where the only attractions are the harbor, the sea and the sky-
I saw a young woman and a young man
sitting close together.
They noticed only each other,
but they could see beyond the harbor,
past the breakwater, past Rockport,
past Gloucester, past Boston.
They could see themselves anywhere in the world
under slips of silver clouds, sitting close together
inside their safe harbor.
